Youth, Development and Peace Network

The Youth Development and Peace Network (Singapore) aims to be the premier platform for youths in Singapore to learn about issues of global action and take a stand on them through dialogue and direct collaboration with change makers around the region.

The objectives of the Youth, Development and Peace Network, a youth group under Youth Challenge (Singapore) and supported by the World Bank Group (Singapore), are two-fold:

First - to promote understanding

Access to World Bank's in-depth knowledge of development work and global issues will enable youths to develop a deeper understanding of the problems at hand, and offer a different perspective on the root causes of poverty and how it can be tackled. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to engage in real-time discussions via video conferencing with other Southeast Asian youths through the Youth Dialogue Series.

Second - to promote action

The YDP Network will provide a suitable and sustainable platform for participants to propose original and effective solutions for the problems they have been presented with during the Youth Dialogue Series. Upon approval, youth members will then be given the opportunity to execute the proposal with support from Youth Challenge.

Programme Highlights

Youth Dialogue Series

Youths are connected via video conference to regional World Bank offices in countries such as Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Mongolia and Japan to discuss issues that they feel are pertinent. Youth organizations from these countries will be invited to participate in this series to encourage interaction among youths within the region and pinpoint common issues that affect their countries.

Distinguished Speaker Series

Two high level discussion forums featuring development experts from around the world will be conducted annually via videoconference. The experts will share their knowledge, experiences and best practices with Singapore youths.

Project Implementation

All members of the YDP Network will be required to take up one of the problems presented in the Youth Dialogue Series and propose a suitable solution. The solution could involve fund raising, education and awareness, knowledge transfer through expeditions, or other events that are relevant for the problem presented, with innovations in terms of systems and products highly encouraged. Support in terms of funding, expertise and facilities will be provided by World Bank and Youth Challenge, as well as the YDP Network Secretariat. Regular Action Dialogues will
